STL-11000M, 35mm format, 11 Megapixel CCD Camera

Since its introduction, the STL-11000M, 35mm format, 11 Megapixel CCD Camera has been used in the hands of some of the best astrophotographers in the world to produce some of the most stunning astrophotos ever produced by amateur astronomers.  When the KAI-11000M CCD was first introduced by Kodak the monochrome version was only available in a Class 1.  The color version was available in a Class 1 and a Class 2, however, the C2 color CCD allows up to 10 column defects whereas the C1 has none.  More recently, the monochrome CCD was made available by Kodak in a Class 2 with significantly improved cosmetic specifications compared to the color version.  The monochrome Class 2 CCD allows no more than 2 column defects (out of 4008).  It should be noted that a column defect does not mean that an entire column is defective.  It means that there are greater than a threshold number of bright or dark pixels within a certain range along one column.  In many cases these cannot be seen.  Even when they are visible in the image, most current software packages designed for CCD image acquisition and processing, such as CCDOPS and CCDSoftV5, have column repair functions that will easily fix any visible effects of a bright or dark column in an image.
